Having a baby can alter the dynamic of your friendships and with less time to dedicate to your pre-baby social life, it is important that you have friends to do ‘mum things’ with.

It may seem like a daunting task, but by sticking to our top tips you will have a new BFF before you know it.

Put yourself out there.
Pop your baby in their buggy and go for a walk. Simply getting out of the house is the first step. Join a local playgroup or strike up a conversation with other mums in the playground.

Make the first move.
Don’t wait around for someone to come up to you. If you see someone you could connect with walk up to them and introduce yourself.

Bring extra toys to the park.
A great way to engage with other mums is to bring extra toys to the park. Kids gravitate towards playing things and where child goes, mum goes too. Once the kids are happily playing together you will be able to sit down and have a chat.

A smile can go a long way.
Have a happy, friendly smile across your face when you are out and about, people naturally move towards those that look approachable.

In your quest to find new friends you will come across mums who never reply to your texts, some will who join you for one play-date but never reciprocate or say you should meet up but never make arrangements. It takes time to find someone you will click with but when you do, it will be worth it.
