Less than a year after stepping down as co-director of London’s Serpentine gallery, Dame Julia Peyton-Jones has welcomed her first child at the age of 64.

The prestigious art director spent 25 years at the helm but finally decided to step down and focus on starting a family.

At the time of her departure, Dame Julia told The Guardian:

“There is never a good time to leave – however, I wanted to go when the Serpentine was firing on all cylinders and our major capital projects had been completed.

“I felt after 25 years this was a good time to hand over the reins to someone new.”

At 64 years of age, many were quick to question why she didn’t have children before now but Dame Julia was a self-proclaimed workaholic and barely found time to walk her dogs she previously revealed in an interview.
