Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for both Real Madrid and Portugal, took the time to honour his late father on the tenth anniversary of his death yesterday.
Sharing an image of himself which included a tribute to his father, Cristiano captioned the tender shot: "Thanks daddy. Always in my heart."
Remembering his beloved father who passed away from an alcohol-related liver condition at the age of 52, Cristiano's photo read: "My father was always in good spirits, he loved football."
Lamenting his father's untimely passing, the star's quote continued: "It makes me a bit sad because if he could enjoy seeing me now, what I have achieved, that would be a highlight in his life...but I am sure that he watches over me from above."
The upload, which has amassed over 850,000 likes in less than 24 hours, has struck a chord with fans and followers of the 30-year-old soccer star.
Reminding the footballer, who became a dad for the first time in June 2010, that his father would always be a presence in his life, one fan wrote: "Your father watches over you from the above, loves and is proud of and protects you."
"He is not here, but he is your angel for life. He will go with you forever," they finished.
