We all know mum-of-three and newspaper columnist, Katie Hopkins, is no stranger to controversy, but it looks like her recent input into discussion surrounding footballer Adam Johnson's recent conviction for sexual activity with a child has left a very bad taste in people's mouths.
Having previously compared migrants to cockroaches and derided children living with Aspergers, Katie yesterday saw fit to cast aspersions on the 15-year-old victim at the centre of Johnson's highly-publicised trial.
Taking to Twitter to pour scorn on the validity of the victim's claims and condemn public interest in the case, the 41-year-old former Celebrity Big Brother contestant wrote: "A child? YOU ARE KIDDING ME? Looking to impress her mates by snagging a footballer. Hey presto. From slag to wag."
Stunned by the lack of compassion shown towards the youngster at the centre of the trial, one Twitter user condemned the columnist, hitting back: "Your continued abuse of this girl is appalling. How u can defend a convicted sex offender is amazing." (sic)
Suggesting that Johnson is the victim of trial by media, Katie suggested: "50% of you think Johnson is guilty BECAUSE you have a daughter, the other 50%BECAUSE he was an overpaid footballer. Fear and avarice."
In addition to scorning the public's belief that Johnson, who has pleaded guilty, is in fact so, Katie continued: "Adam Johnson is the new Cecil the Lion killer. Except, Cecil is a 15 year old girl who wanted to impress her mates by playing with guns."
In a move which is bounded to sicken the wider public, Katie insisted that the entire case is flawed, writing: "Adam Johnson is not a Paedo. At 15, I was not a child. And if either are victims, hers is of stupidity. His, of short-term financial success." (sic)
Responding to the columnist's tweets, one outraged Twitter user wrote: "What an appalling comment to make! Staggering for its viciousness! Apologise promptly - you seem to have lost plot!"
Katie, who recently underwent brain surgery, is mum to two daughters and one son.
