Many of us with older kids will acknowledge that, as the years go by, sharing a roof can become that little bit harder. And when you’ve got several adults living in one house together, compassion and respect are key to keeping things running smoothly.

This is something that Reddit user Chalipo has learned the hard way, after receiving an invoice from his mother, including a fine for being ‘an unappreciative a***ole’!

According to Chalipo’s comments on the Reddit thread, the invoice covered the 13 months he spent at home while he held down an internship and a part-time job with his full-time studies.

Posting a screenshot of the invoice to image-sharing site Imgur, Chalipo explained: “Mom gave me an invoice for supporting me for 13 months. Charged me $1,000 for being an unappreciative a***ole”.

The invoice revealed that poor old Chalipo was being fined around $40,000 CAD (around £21,000) for his contribution towards bills and gifts – as well as the tax on his lack of appreciation “of this mother’s support, financially or otherwise”.

For anyone wondering if Chalipo really has to pay back his mother, he later wrote: “My mom doesn’t expect me to repay her. Her parents charged her interest so she doesn’t want to do that to me…I hope to one day be successful enough to support my family and repay her, but she doesn’t expect me to.” Aw.
