Megan Milliken began working at Captain D’s restaurant over two-years-ago.
The student was working part-time as she was attending school.
But she made an unlikely friend while at work, a veteran.
The elder man was kind, funny and interesting; the staff quickly became accustomed to him, growing a beautiful friendship.
Megan learned: “He had served over 20-years, his wife had recently died from cancer, and his son was active in the Marines still.”
Realising he just wanted some company, Megan and the rest of the staff would sit and eat with the ex-military-man, often seeking advice and discussing their life events.
But when Megan’s graduation night arrived, the last thing the teen was expecting was to see her friend.
But there he was, standing in a suit, all dressed up, ready to applaud his young friend for her achievements:
“He stood there and got so proud when they called my name. I'm leaving for college in a few days and we said our goodbyes and he handed me one hundred dollars... and refused to take any back.”
Megan was also proud of herself, proud she had made friends with this man when many would have ignored him, telling people:
“No matter how big or how small your job is, there is always someone watching.”
“Someone who will care or support you or listen. Always be nice. Always be kind. You never know.”
We think Megan is wise beyond her years, what a nice young lady and a beautiful friend.
