He rose up through the ranks of Hollywood with a reputation as a 'bad boy', but it seems fatherhood has had a completely transformative effect on Russell Brand's life.

The British actor has this week opened up about how marriage and fatherhood have changed his life for the better, while on the promotional trail for his new book, Recovery: Freedom from Our Addictions.

Appearing on The View, the 42-year-old admitted: “I love being present and being a father to my daughter [11-month-old Mabel] – it’s completely changed my outlook.

“I was a person who was obsessed with fame, obsessed with what people think of me…but I know nothing can make me happy except for my inner life, and my inner connection.

Me and Bear. Pure dignity.

“Having a baby is the materialisation of ‘I’m not the most important person in the world’.”

He also described married life, to wife Laura Gallacher, as 'bliss'.

While Russell seems a million miles away from the man presented to the world back in the days of Big Brother, he certainly hasn't lost his sense of humour!

In another interview, with US presenter Megyn Kelly, he revealed just how 'villainous' little Mabel can be!

“I love being a new father, I love my little daughter. In a month, she’ll be a year old, little Mabel," he mused.

“She’s so beautiful, and so glorious, and so full of joy and love; but I’ll tell you this now, Megyn – she’s a vicious, vindictive, villainous little character!"

With the crowd erupting into laughter, he explained: “She thinks ‘ow’ is a word. Her first word was ‘ow’, because it’s what she hears me say all the time, because she takes this chest hair here, twists it, and pulls it like a UFC master, like Conor McGregor!

“I go, ‘Ow!’ And she goes, ‘Ow.’”

Russell and 30-year-old style blogger Laura tied the knot last month, after two years of dating. The couple, who previously agreed to keep their family life private, said "I do" in an intimate ceremony near their home in Henley-on-Thames.

It sounds like Russell is happier than ever - more power to him!
