Recently a young mum shared her experiences of having her children at a younger age and we were overwhelmed by the response from our own mum community to the article.

Many of you shared this mum’s feelings about being judged or asked questions about your age by total strangers which is completely inappropriate.

With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of five things that younger mums are really tired of hearing.

1. Was it an accident?

This is very a common one. Whether your pregnancy was a surprise or planned, it’s none of anyone’s business and it’s a pretty rude question.

2. You’re still a kid yourself

Younger mums have to grit their teeth when they hear this one. These types of comments make us feel as though being younger means we are less capable of minding our little ones.

Certainly, young mums are faced with financial and career disadvantages at times but there are also lots of advantages and the age of a mum doesn’t determine what kind of parent she will be.

3. But none of your friends have babies

Yes, we’re aware of that. But now they can be “aunts” to our little bundles of joy which will give them the best insight into parenting they could ever have.

It’s up to them to decide when and if they want to have a child themselves.

4. You should have waited until you had more money

This one is really personal and a tad hurtful.

Money is a crucial factor in providing children with stability but offering them love, care and having fun with them is more important.

The truth is babies are expensive at ANY age – older mums and younger mums alike will know this.

5. Don’t you miss being young?

Despite the fact that we can’t be as carefree as we were before babies came along, young mothers are still young.

We still enjoy our lives and have fun, we’ve just learned to make adjustments to accommodate the little ones in our lives.

This might mean forgoing a night out because the kids have activities on Saturday morning or going to a family-friendly restaurant rather than a posh one but either way it’s totally worth it.

If anything kids keep us young with their crazy mishaps!
