Robyn Bailey got the shock of her life when she visited her doctor with suspected appendicitis only to discover she was in labour and about to give birth!

Robyn was suffering from excruciating stomach pain and went to see her local GP. Her GP assessed her condition and informed the shocked young woman that she was pregnant and was about to give birth.

Robyn went straight to hospital where she gave birth to a little girl named Daisy Pearl.

But just as Robyn, 21, and her partner Luke Darvill were adjusting to life as new parents, little Daisy became ill at two weeks old.

The tot was rushed to hospital after her parents saw she was struggling to breathe and doctors found three holes in the little girl’s heart.

The Cambridge News reports that medics informed her distraught parents that she required immediate life-saving open heart surgery.

The family’s lives were turned upside down as they struggled to digest this shocking news.

"In a matter of weeks our lives had changed," said Luke, 25, from Haverhill. "We had no idea that Daisy was on the horizon and all of a sudden Robyn was not only pregnant but also in labour and giving birth to our baby.

"We weren’t prepared at all, but as soon as we set our eyes on our baby daughter, we were lovestruck and couldn’t wait to get the next chapter of our lives started. She completed our little family.

“We had been at home for two weeks before Daisy became seriously unwell.

"We were told her heart wasn’t working properly - it was terrifying to think that something we loved so much could be taken away from us.

“We didn’t know how long she would be in hospital for and I had no idea about where we would stay while she underwent this major treatment”.

The young parents had very little cash to spare for accommodation but thankfully a charity came to their aid.

The Sick Children’s Trust gave Robyn and Luke with a place to stay near the hospital so they could be close to Daisy.

Two months later, Daisy’s condition deteriorated and she needed to be transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

Luke and Robyn were afraid they would be separated from their daughter when she needed them the most. Thankfully, The Sick Children’s Trust saved the day once more by providing them with a place to stay.

Robyn expressed her gratitude to the charity saying: “When we first arrived in London we were exhausted with worry. Daisy was very poorly and it was breaking our hearts to see her fighting for her life.

“The house manager, Tina, welcomed us with a huge amount of love and care. She was so interested in how Daisy was and the journey we’d been on. Tina became like family: a huge support we needed at such a traumatic time”.

Daisy, who is now a toddler, recovered and only needs occasional hospital visits now.

Luke is now training for a half-marathon to raise funds for the charity as a way of saying thank you for their support. If you would like to donate click here.
