Michelle and Barry Rocks’ daughter Cara Rocks was sadly stillborn on June 26th 2013, but today the couple were told that Michelle was a good candidate for a planned caesarean.

The details emerged at Belfast Coroner’s Court as the couple’s representative Barrister Fiona Doherty QC cross-examined obstetrics specialist Dr Joanna Krystowska.

“There was a history of a previous c-section. You had determined that the baby was big and in addition the baby was presenting as breech,” Ms Doherty said.

"This was a good candidate for a planned c-section."

Michelle gave birth to Cara at the Causeway Hospital, Coleraine, and, according to Dr Krystowska, had been keen for an elective c-section.

Claiming everyone had been “traumatised” by Cara’s case, according to the Irish Independent, Dr Krystowska accepted that she may have told the family that the baby had been “hanged” by the umbilical chord, due to complications at delivery.

"I think this couple and the people involved were traumatised by this event. Out of my sympathy I might have said something like that."

"We were robbed of our daughter, our sons of their sister and parents of their granddaughter," said Mrs Rocks, according to the BBC

"We only wish that she had that chance to live."
