What started off as a truly heartbreaking story, will definitely have you smiling by the end.

Left at an animal shelter in Alberta, Weezy the dog was terrified of everything. Literally.

She would quake at the sound of toys, quiver if a fly came near and would hide from any person who tried to approach her.

Thankfully, however, one family was determined to help her, and Sarah Mavro drove for TWO hours to collect her from the shelter.

And bit by bit, the little Italian greyhound, who had to have all but two teeth removed (which is why his tongue sticks out), started to come out of his shell.

"She loves to cuddle under the blanket with us, and has a nightly ritual of watching my husband play video games in the basement by the fireplace," Sarah told the Dodo.

And three years after being taken in by the Mavro family, baby Evan came along - and simply took the pup's breath away.

In fact, it was following his baby brother's arrival when Weezy really started to relax.

"He is seven months old now and she loves him even more than she loves us I think," Evan's mum continued.

"She will climb right up beside him and let him get all over her."

So adorable; we love this story of two best friends - just look how they connect:
