To celebrate 25 years of We’re Going On a Bear Hunt, Walker Books and the Royal National Institute of Blind People are attempting to break a Guinness World Record for the largest reading lesson.

The record will take place on Tuesday, 15th July 2014 at 10am and will star Michael Rosen, the author of the beloved picture book.

It is hoped that over 1000 children will take part in the event at Charter Hall, Colchester, which will be live-streamed on www.jointhebearhunt.com for all children to watch and take part, where ever they are.

Seven Stories in Newcastle, Discover Story Centre in Stratford, East London, The Story Museum in Oxford and Birmingham’s New Central Library will be hosting in-house screening events with their local schools.

Every child involved will be asked to donate £1 to Read for RNIB Day to help open up a world of reading and make more books accessible to blind and partially sighted children.

The event will be fully accessible for children of all abilities; Yellow Door, the educational publication licensee for We’re Going On A Bear Hunt have written the material available for schools, and all activities have been developed in association with RNIB to ensure that everyone can take part.

The current record is held by the Read Foundation in Pakistan when 441 participants had a reading lesson at the Bhimber Stadium, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan.
