While we certainly wouldn’t turn our noses up to a bunch of fresh flowers and a box of chocolates, if we’re being honest (c’mon now, ladies!) there are a number of things that we actually want for Mother’s Day – much of it involving alone time!

To have a day off cleaning

Seriously! When we say a day off we don’t mean the morning or the afternoon - we want the whole day off! And for no one to bat an eyelid that we stepped over the spilt drink rather than clean it up.

To be taken out for lunch

A homemade lunch by our little darlings is always a nice gesture, don’t get us wrong. But for once we would love to be taken out to a fancy restaurant and treated to a glass of wine in the afternoon. It’s not much, is it?!

To stay in bed, undisturbed

We don’t want breakfast in bed, unless it’s plonked on our laps and the room vacated just as quickly! A good book, a cup of tea and an hour or two in the tranquillity of our room will definitely be a Mother’s Day well spent.

To be woken up to a clean house

If you are anything like us, you enjoy the simple things in life – like a clean house! No arts and crafts all over the living room floor. No dishes sitting in the sink from last night. Clean windows, freshly mopped floors, washing already on the line – oh, imagine being woken up to that kind of scene!

To have an hour or two to ourselves

No kids, no other half just us a quiet house and maybe an afternoon nap. We don’t mean the whole day – an hour or two would be enough!

To watch our favourite TV show, in peace

Be it Corrie, Better Call Saul, a house show or some reality nonsense, we would love to be able to sit down and watch it without having to get up and make someone dinner just as it is getting to the good part!

To not have to cook four different meals for dinner

If we do actually have to cook on the only official day for mums (ahem....) it would be great to only have to make one dish. Not three or four different ones...

To receive a handmade card

It’s true, we love nothing more than being handed a card lovingly made by our kids. There is just something so special about them that they beat any other gift hands down.
