Being a mum in these obsessive social media times isn't easy.

Yes, every mum has their own way of doing things - and no one way that's necessarily 'right' either - but it can be hard not to compare your own methods to those who decide to share their own experiences all over Instagram.

From breastfeeding to co-sleeping, it seems every parent out there has an idea of 'the best' way to go about raising children, and it can be hard not to let external viewpoints taint or alter your own natural instincts as a mum.

Reality-TV-star-turned-fashion-designer Whitney Port, who has a six-month-old son named Sonny, has opened up about the compare culture that mums can feel pressure to succumb to on social media, saying that it "isn't healthy."

"I look at photos and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, how did they get themselves together and look so cute?’ or ‘How do they keep their house so clean?’” Port told Us Weekly.

“I am constantly comparing myself and it’s so unhealthy.”

And when it comes to sharing her own experiences of motherhood, Port relatably insists that she'd always favour showing the highs as well as the lows, even adding that she does miss some of her life, pre-having her first child.

“There are so many days where I want to relax and watch TV and I just can’t do that anymore,” she said. “I just miss free time.”

She says she decided to come clean about the realities of her experiences following encouragement from her husband.

"Honestly, I owe it all to my husband," she explained. "[He] is a producer and he works in development, and when I was in my first trimester I was really sick, really unhappy, and not that thrilled about my situation. And he said, “Whitney, I know this may not be something you want to do, but we have the camera. Why don’t we start filming what you’re going through? Because I feel like if you’re going through this, you’re not the first person. There has to be so many other people going through this.”

Do you feel a similar pressure, mums?
