Badass mum-to-be Anna Lunoe has enjoyed a successful career as a DJ, and has never let anything get in her way.

Anna, from Australia, has toured with huge artists like MIA, The Weeknd and Diplo, and has played massive festivals from Lollapalooza to Coachella.

However, when she became pregnant, Anna worried about how her career would be affected. Knowing that there are certain societal expectations placed on pregnant women, she thought she would have to take time out from her beloved decks.

“I didn’t even imagine that I would keep DJing pregnant, because I just didn’t think anybody wanted to see that,” she told The Guardian.

“It was something that I’d picked up in culture – a general understanding that people didn’t want to see pregnant women being anything but, like, on the couch and in kitchens.”

However, despite her fears, Anna went on to play a successful tour, culminating in playing the Hard Summer festival in California, at eight months pregnant.

Anna explained that, while growing up, she didn’t associate being pregnant with exciting things like performing on stage.

“The message that my teenage brain got (was) like, 'Oh, when you’re pregnant, life’s over.' And that goes for a lot of things about being a woman,” she added.

“Joking about women being unattractive and unworthy when they get pregnant or older is something that we all experience, all the time.”

During pregnancy, Anna had somewhat of an epiphany.  She decided she would go out on stage and enjoy DJing while pregnant.

“Why should I not be able to perform or do my job because it’s ‘scary’ for people to see me in that state?” she asked.

“As I’ve gotten older, and have become pregnant, I’ve come to realise that it’s all in your head – what you’re willing to accept, and what you want to be. So, I’m not going to give anybody that control over me.”

Anna found that DJing distracted her from morning sickness and helped her to feel better.

“I found if I had morning sickness or any kind of nausea, DJing actually made me feel a lot better,” she said. “It just got me out of my head and got my body moving. Dancing makes you happy.”

The mum-to-be added that she was “cautious” on stage and refrained from high-impact jumping around; but other than that, she was able to keep playing without issue.

She’s now taking a well-deserved rest and intends to take the next few months off to be with her baby.

We think Anna is awesome – we wish her all the best with the rest of her pregnancy.
