Having caused yet more public outrage after making a number of ill-advised comments regarding an autistic child whose journey was documented on Channel 4’s Born Naughty?, mum-of-three Katie Hopkins has done very little to rectify the issue.

Having dubbed the child at the centre of the documentary a 'tw*t and cast aspersions on her mother's parenting skills, the 40-year-old former Celebrity Big Brother contestant went too far in the eyes of many Twitter users.

The columnist may, however, be forced to recognise and admit mistakes after being addressed in an open letter published by The Mirror newspaper recently.

Written by the mother of a seven-year-old boy diagnosed with autism, Nicky Seers appealed to Katie to acknowledge the implications her comments can have on the wider public  saying: “Comments like that set our community back by twenty years, which is a real shame as we've come so far.”

Appealing to Katie’s maternal side, the frustrated mum pleaded with Katie to realise the hurt her comments can cause, saying: "I've grown a very tough skin but comments you made about a child being a t*** over Twitter have upset me."

Acknowledging that the columnist is unlikely to apologise, Nicky offered the famous mum the option to meet with her support group in an attempt to enlighten Katie as to the struggles faced by sufferers on a daily basis, saying: “You should come along to our support group and meet our amazing parents and children. That's an open invite. I'm all for educating the ignorant. I'm not going to ask you to apologise - what would be the point?”

Speaking out on the matter, the National Autistic Society described Katie's Twitter posts as a 'new low', insisting: "It's unacceptable to talk about children in this aggressive way, regardless of whether they have a diagnosed condition like autism or not."

Katie has yet to respond to Nicky's letter.
