Social media websites have gone into meltdown this week following the circulation of a letter originally published in an Australian magazine.

Sharing an insight into her family's baby-naming process in the brief message, Claire Smith from New South Wales told readers she has been under the assumption her child's unusual name was chosen on account of its unique sound, but it looks like all was not as it seemed!

Admitting she and her daughter inadvertently fell victim to her husband's passion for football, Claire wrote: "We chose our daughter's name, Lanesra, because it was unique and romantic. It wasn't till she was two that my husband told me it was actually his favourite soccer team, Arsenal, spelled backwards!" (sic)

However, according to The Independent,  Claire's daughter's name may not be as unique as she and her partner initially thought, with other parents also having chosen it on account of their love for the London football team.

"Youngest daughter is called Isabelle Lanesra Mary. We didn't have a name for two weeks with her and we called her Missy Moo until we got to the registry office and decided on Isabelle," wrote one mum online.

Elaborating further, Isabelle's proud mum continued: "Lanesra is Arsenal backwards as we are both avid Gooners!"
