We don’t throw the word ‘hero’ around all that often, but Rhonda DiCostanzo has well and truly earned that title for herself this week.

The midwife has made headlines around the world – all because of her rather hectic Thanksgiving, last Thursday!

Washington woman Rhonda began her day by completing her local triathlon, went on to single-handedly deliver a baby, then finished her evening by serving up Thanksgiving dinner to 16 people!

Rhonda hadn’t planned on stopping by her place of work on Thursday, but after tripping and breaking two fingers at the triathlon, she decided to head down for treatment.

It was then, while Rhonda was sitting in the hospital waiting room that mum-to-be Jessica Morales walked in.

Jessica was in ‘active labour’, and she couldn’t wait any longer – she was having her son in that waiting room.

Fearless Rhonda sprang into action and, according to local news, she was the one to bring the baby boy into the world.

After getting seen to herself, Rhonda headed home and cooked up a Thanksgiving feast for 16 loved ones.

Shrugging off her ‘hero’ status, Rhonda told 11Alive.com: “What a great day, what a wonderful life I lead. Triathlon, deliver baby, cook dinner, have time with family and friends – life is good.”
