We're sure Devi Mariah Ostler didn't expect to deliver her third child at the side of a major road, but this is exactly what happened when she went into labour and was forced to stop driving last Saturday.

The expectant mum phoned emergency services for assistance, but unfortunately nature took over and the brave mum informed dispatcher Brittney Chugg that she was going to have to deliver her own child.

Explaining her predicament, Devi told services: "I'm trying to get over into the other lane- I need to push! The baby is coming!"

Commenting on the event, dispatcher Brittney said: "We knew. We knew it was going to happen. There was going to be a baby on the side of the freeway right then."

Thankfully, police chief Jean Loveland and Utah Highway Patrol trooper Josh Carr arrived moments before Devi's healthy 10 lb son made his entrance into the world.

Opening up about the moment he tended to Devi, Josh said: "He came right out in my hands. It was very emotional. Probably next to my own children's birth, it was a very satisfying moment in my career."

Down-to-earth mum-of-three Devi commented on the moment she realised she wouldn't make to the hospital in time, saying: "I knew the baby was coming and it doesn't help to panic. So I just stayed calm and said, 'Well, if I deliver it on my own then I deliver in on my own. If somebody gets here, somebody gets here. The baby is here, There's not much I can do about it."

Like mum Samantha Smith and her daughter Ebony- Mai, who was delivered by her father in a carpark recently, both Devi and baby are said to be doing very well.
