A Canada Boeing 767 aircraft bound for Japan was forced to make an emergency landing in Narita airport yesterday after a pregnant woman went into labour and gave birth onboard.

The 23-year-old Canadian native is believed to have gone into labour as they plane she was travelling on made its way across the Pacific Ocean in the direction of Tokyo.

Having delivered a healthy baby girl on the packed aircraft, the new mum was helped from the plane in a wheelchair before being taken to hospital.

Her stunned partner, who emerged from the aircraft carrying his newborn baby daughter, opened up about the incredible event, telling The Japan Times: "I couldn’t imagine. This happened completely unexpectedly."

Fellow travellers were overjoyed to learn both mum and baby were doing well, with one passenger who recalled the event, saying: "Everyone was clapping their hands."

Wishing the new mum and her unexpected arrival all the very best!
