UPDATE: This story has since been revealed to be a hoax - we're secretly relieved that no mother had to go through this ordeal!

If your eyebrows were raised by the birth of the 13-pound baby last month, you might want to brace yourself.

Reports have emerged today claiming that an Australian woman has given birth to a baby of record-breaking weight – 40 pounds.

According to reports, the 600-pound woman surprised doctors at Perth’s King Edward Memorial Hospital when she welcomed her healthy bundle of joy.

Doctors had to make a surgical incision into the woman’s abdomen and uterus in order to prevent any harm coming to the 40-pound baby (18 kilos) or the mother.

The doctor who delivered the child said that this was one birth he will not forget for a very long time.

“I have dealt with other women suffering from obesity before but this birth will stick with me until I die. I truly believed there was two or even three babies in there, but no, it was just one big sturdy guy,” he said.

He added, jokingly: “He obviously has a career as a future rugby player.”

The heaviest recorded baby in the world weighed in at 38 pounds and was born in 1839, which means that this as of yet unnamed tot has well and truly smashed the previous record.
