If your little one went through the 'blankey' phase, you'll totally understand what this lion is feeling.

Lambert the African lion was illegally purchased by a father whose kids had just seen The Lion King and said that they "wanted a Simba."

So the dad went out and bought one. As you do!

Three months later however, the family decided they didn't want little Lambert anymore, so the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries stepped in.

They then asked Vicky Keahey, founder of Texas' In-Sync Exotics Wildlife Rescue and Educational Center if she'd take him in.

They told her the cub was used to sleeping in bed with their grandfather, so when Lambert struggled to settle into his new home at the rescue centre, Vicky sought the help of a comfort blanket.

And it worked!

"I started thinking, 'okay, he's used to being in a house, he's used to sleeping in the bed with grandpa.' So I got him a blanket, went into the enclosure and put the blanket in one of the corners," Vicky told The Dodo.

"He curled up on that blanket and he went right to sleep. Ever since then, I always give him a blanket."

Now two years old, Lambert has grown quite  bit. He still lives with Vicky at the centre where he is very happy hanging out in his 7,000 sq ft playground, but sadly he's considered too tame to be released back into the wild.

Adorably, despite being older and bigger, he still sleeps with his cosy comfort blanket.

Lambert also has plenty of toys.

In fact, for his second birthday recently, Vicky gave him all of his favourite things as gifts: two trash cans to demolish, a wad of paper to tear up, his blanket (of course) and some whipped cream (why not!?)

He also likes to indulge in a spot of skateboarding.

"He's just like any other two-year-old lion in that he is active and playful, and is full of attitude. You know where you stand with him."
