Naming your child is a very personal process, and one that parents all over the world do with great care and love. So, when someone criticises your choice, naturally it’s going to hurt.
Fans have rushed to reassure reality star Ferne McCann, after the big reveal of her newborn daughter’s name was met with criticism.
Ferne took to Instagram this weekend to share the update, writing: “I thought today would be the perfect day to tell you all her name…meet Sunday.”
The name proved divisive immediately – and some of Ferne’s followers didn’t think to spare her feelings in their comments.
“FFS, imagine the teacher taking the register at school and calling out a name of the week, and having to answer to it. I can’t cope,” wrote one fan.
“I know people name their kids after the seasons, but come on, ‘Sunday?’ Might as well call her Sunny for short,” another added.
While one follower told Ferne that her daughter would ‘hate her’ for choosing the name, another chimed in: “Sunday, I’m sure, has some form of meaning, but your child is going to suffer for this. Not hating, because you are both beautiful, but my goodness.”
Sunday’s arrival into the world was announced last Thursday, a week ahead of schedule. Ferne took to Instagram to confirm the news, gushing that she was ‘so in love and bursting with pride’.
This is a very special time for the new mother, who rose to fame on TOWIE, and thankfully loyal fans were on hand to jump to her defence.
“Who are we to judge what Ferne has called her baby, what’s to say she likes your name? Not everyone has the same taste. As long as Baby and Mum are healthy, in my opinion…Baby is beautiful,” wrote one fan.
While others simply admired the ‘beautiful’ choice of name, one fan in particular made a very valid observation: “April is a month of the year. Autumn is a season. Rose is a flower. Paris is a city – the list goes on…She can name her child what she wants.”
Ferne isn’t alone in her choice of moniker. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban named their eldest daughter, now nine, Sunday Rose. Austin Powers actor Mike Myers also has a daughter named Sunday Molly.
So, Ferne and her little bundle of joy are in good company!
