Even if you are an avid cleaner and a bit of a speckler for minute cleaning details, there are a number of spots in the home that can go unnoticed. Unfortunately, it is these areas that you miss that can actually do the most damage.

Here are five things in the home that need to be maintained and cleaned at least once a year:

The gutters

You need to clean out your gutters regularly to avoid a build up of dirt and debris, which can cause water to spill onto your roof.

Behind your fridge

Make sure you clean and vacuum the coil behind your fridge to keep it in working order. If you don’t, the fridge will have to use up more energy and electricity and it won’t run as efficiently.

Spare toilets

If you have toilets or hand basins in your home that aren’t frequently used you will need to flush the chain or run water down the drain to stop a build up of dirt and grime.

Water heater’s pressure

A least once or even twice a year, check the pressure in your hot water value to ensure it is correct. This will help prevent mineral build up which can cause corrosion and ultimately leaks.

Dryer ducts

If you have a dryer you will need to clean the duct at least once a year to remove any lint which can clog it. A clogged duct can cause a fire and use up more energy than necessary.
