It is a rare child who loves getting up early and going to school. And, if you are one of the lucky few, you’re probably the envy of the rest of the mums. On the plus side, even if your child does have a dislike towards the classroom or has suddenly developed one, there are, a number of things that you can do to help them chnage their mind.

The following tips will help you out:

Look at after school activities
A child is less likely to enjoy something if they are constantly tired, so look at their after school activities. If they are overscheduled, cut down on some activities. On the flip side if there are a number of activities that they would like to do try, if possible, to sign them up - having something to look forward too can make school look more appealing.

Be interested in what they do
Get involved in your child’s school day and enquire about what they got up to. Focus in on the positives and ask them, in particular, about their favourite subjects. Try to avoid talking too long on a topic that they don’t like – constant reminders about the good aspects may help them to forget the little things that they don’t like.

Start the day off the right way
If you are constantly rushing in the morning your child is likely to arrive in school cranky and upset – this is not a good way to start the day. Set out the jobs that each person has the night before so that there is no confusion in the morning - things will get done a lot quicker when everyone knows what needs to be done. Get up a few minutes earlier and enjoy breakfast with them – talk about things that they have to look forward to in class that day.

The importance of sleep
Just like breakfast, getting enough sleep in significantly important to ensure your child is prepared to take on the day. If your child is constantly struggling to concentrate or to focus it can be down to the fact that they haven’t had enough sleep. Kids under the age of 12 need between ten and 11 hours of sleep each night. Each child is different though so make sure your little one is getting enough shut eye.
