Think of your menstrual cycle as being in two parts; B.O. (before ovulation) and A.O. (after ovulation). You are most fertile two or three days before you actually ovulate and for 12 to 24 hours after ovulation occurs. Since it is difficult to pin point exactly when ovulation happens, it's a good idea to build in a small cushion. Sperm can live in your reproductive tract for up to three days, but your egg has a much shorter lifespan of about 12 to 24 hours after you ovulate. Under ideal circumstances, the sperm will be already in place to greet the egg as it arrives.

So, this means that you need to figure out when you are most likely to ovulate, and start getting down to business five or six days prior to ovulating. Don’t overdo it, though. Limit yourselves to sex every other day, because too much sex can deplete your partner's sperm count.
