When proud mum Tara Taylor posted a picture of her little girl to Facebook, she got more than compliments and ‘likes’- she got advice that saved her daughter’s sight.
Three-year-old Rylee Taylor from Tennessee in the US was found to have the potentially blinding Coats' disease after two friends of her mum spotted her left eye was glowing in the Facebook picture.
While most of Tara’s friends ‘liked’ the post, a couple of attentive pals urged her to get her child’s eyes checked out.
"They said, 'Hey, I'm sure it's nothing," Tara said of her friends. "But your daughter's eye is glowing and you might want to have it checked out because it's a sign there could be an issue with her eye.”
Rylee was taken to a paediatrician and then a retina specialist before she was diagnosed with Coats' disease.
The rare condition causes vision loss or blindness in one eye caused by abnormal development of blood vessels behind the retina.
The early intervention was vital in saving Rylee’s sight, who is now being treated for the condition.
