Visiting a new mum is always an exciting time - meeting Baby for the first time, checking in on Mum and embracing a whole new life. And while the new mum is definitely not expecting you to bring anything, it is always nice to show up with a small gift or token.

Whether you have a big budget, a small budget or no budget at all you can always bring something that is sure to make their life a little easier.

1. Nappies

Newborns go through lots and lots of nappies and the price can add up. Turning up at the door with a box in tow will no doubt be welcomed with open arms.

2. Baby essentials

Buying things like wipes, lotion, creams and cotton wool all the time can be pricey so a hamper full of the products would no doubt go down a treat.

3. Food

The last thing a new mum wants to do is cook, so pile her kitchen with freezable dishes that only need to be heated up in the oven.

4. Dressing gown

It can get pretty cold at night when feeding Baby so make sure Mum has a dressing gown to keep them warm. You can pick one up fairly cheap, and remember, the fluffier the better!

5. Pyjamas

For the first few weeks, many new mums spend a lot of time in their pyjamas so why not treat them to a new comfy pair. The more pairs they have the less they’ll need to wash!

6. Chocolate

Chocolate puts a smile on everyone’s face so don’t turn up without a bar or five!

7. Bath products

The new mum is likely to feel sore and achy in parts of their body, and sometimes only a good hot bath will do. Treat them to some nice bath products and mind Baby so they can go and have one while you are there!

8. Night light

The last thing any new mum wants to do is turn the main light on when getting up in the middle of the night to feed their infant. A night light will help them see and read without disturbing Baby or their partner too much.

9. Magazines

They won’t have much time during the day to read them, but they can prove a great source of entertainment during night feeds. A soft night light and some celebrity gossip can help them to stay awake during the quiet nights.

10. Hand cream

New mums wash their hands a lot: after changing a nappy, before changing a nappy, before feeding, after feeding etc.! This can mean they are likely to suffer from dry skin on their hands, so treat them to a nice, luxurious, indulgent hand cream.
