Organising childcare during the school holidays can be a nightmare for many parents. Signing kids up for classes or extra time in the crèche is an added expense that most parents simply can’t afford these days.
For those who can, asking our own parents to watch the kids for a few days definitely helps to lift the burden. And while most simply do it to spend time with their grandkids, getting them a gift, no matter how small, to show your appreciation is always welcomed.
A restaurant voucher
Choose a restaurant that they have been talking about for ages or get them one for their favourite eatery.
Cash in an envelope
Some parents might feel insulted others might be delighted, only you will know if a small cash token would be received well.
A homemade thank you cake
If money is really tight, why not spend time with the kids baking your parents a great big thank you cake. Everyone loves receiving cake and the time and effort you put into it will really show your appreciation.
A bouquet of flowers
They don’t have to be an expensive bunch but it’s always lovely to receive flowers out of the blue.
A hairdressing voucher
Let your mum or dad pamper themselves with a hairdresser voucher - they always come in handy, even to pick up shampoo or hair products.
A supermarket voucher
We know vouchers can get a little repetitive, but food shopping bills do add up and it’s always nice to have the load lifted once in a while.
Their favourite moisturiser
Treat them to a gift of their favourite moisturiser or to one that you know they would enjoy but couldn’t really afford.
A box of chocolates
A box of chocolates doesn’t have to blow your budget but they are always greatly received.
Cupcakes baked by your kids
Let your kids go wild in the kitchen baking up a storm for your parents to say thanks.
Just say it
While not really a gift per se, simply saying thank you and telling your parents that you appreciate them will truly mean a lot to them.
