Mascara is one of those go-to beauty products that many of us take for granted. Granted that it will always be there to make our eyes bright, beautifully framed and desirable!

However, if you’re like us you are probably making the following mistakes, and it’s time we all ended this madness!

1. Using a zig-zag motion

This will just leave you with clumpy, spider-like lashes rather than the long, fluttery ones we all strive to achieve. Instead, gently wiggle it a little at the roots and pull straight to the tips – this will create the illusion of fullness.

2. Putting more on the tips to get a curl

This will just end up making your eyes look top-heavy. If you want the curled look you need to roll the wand as you bring it through your lashes.

3. Applying on more coats AFTER it has dried

Obviously the more coats you apply the thicker your lashes will look, but only do it if the first coat is still wet. Leaving it until it has dried will mean you’ll end up with a spidery look.

4. Pumping the wand in and out of the wand

Rather than coating your wand, this just pushes more air into the bottle, drying the mascara out a lot faster than it normally would.

5. Using mascara that's ancient!

You should be throwing your mascara out after six months (earlier if it’s clumpy), otherwise you’ll just end up with an eye infection.
