By now, most of us will have our facial routine down to a tee: cleanse, tone and moisturise, even leaving time at the end to give our necks a little bit of TLC.

Sadly, however, it’s our hands that are often left to fend for themselves, even though they are put through the mill on a daily basis, especially when you consider the amount of times they are in and out of water containing chemical products.

But it’s never too late to make up for the neglect, and we have five ways to give them some love.

1. Skip the harsh soap

The skin on your hands are sensitive and if you’re using the wrong soap or something that is way too harsh, you will only end up drying them out. Instead, opt for one that is mild enough to be kind to your skin, but strong enough to kill all bacteria.

2. Skip the hot water

Give your hands a little bit of respect by not forcing them under hot water every time you wash. This will strip them of their natural oils and leave them dry and susceptible to cracks.

3. Be generous with moisturising

Just like your face, your hands need to be moisturised to keep them soft and supple. Clarins know all too well how important it is to care for hands  and to celebrate their successful skincare products, they have launched three limited edition Hand and Nail Treatment Cream: orange leaf, white tea and fig leaf. Their cream is a highly effective, and nourishes, soothes, regenerates and beautifies the hands and nails.

4. Buff your nails and push back your cuticles

Give yourself a bit of a mini manicure by buffing your nails, and gently pushing back your cuticles (but only when they are soft). File and moisturise to finish.

5. Take a break from nail polish

While nail polish does finish off an outfit, having discoloured nails because you wear it too much is not going to help your hands. Every now and then do leave your nails polish-free to give them a chance to breathe.
