Celebrities have thousands of followers across a variety of social media platforms, from Instagram to Twitter. They can use their platforms to promote their latest project or to interact with fans.

Amanda Holden has used her celebrity status to help those in need. The Britain's Got Talent judge has sought the public's help in finding a group of masked men who tried to mug a mum and her daughter.

Amanda posted the CCTV footage of the incident which took place on June 21. It is understood that Amanda lives close to where the attempted robbery took place.

She captioned the clip: “So this I know is happening everywhere but this was Sandpits Road Tw10 -21st June 12;35 broad daylight. Mother and child attached. And some #Heroes in a lorry chased them off. Call 101 or 999 if u know these scumbags.”

The masked men approach the woman and her little girl, but thankfully she reacted quickly. The mum fled the scene with her daughter as the men got closer to her.

A passer-by spotted the incident and chased the men with what is believed to be a piece of wood.

Local police said they are carrying out an investigation following the incident. “Police are aware of this incident its an attempted robbery that happened on Petersham Road and is currently being investigated,” they tweeted.

Amanda's tweet has been liked over 5,000 times and retweeted up to 4,000 times, which proves how important it is for celebrities to use their platform to help others.
