They rarely give joint interviews, but there is no denying that this latest one, to promote their new movie, is as candid as it gets.

There were no holds barred as Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt sat down to chat this week ahead of the release of By The Sea; their first joint project since the iconic Mr & Mrs Smith.

Among the topics touched on was Angelina’s preventative surgeries – her double-mastectomy and the removal of her ovaries – and the strength of their bond was clear as they discussed the sensitive issue.

Mother-of-six Angelina was particularly candid as she referred to her husband’s reaction to her decision to have the surgeries, admitting that it was his support that helped her through.

“I knew through the surgeries that he was on my side and that this wasn’t something where I was going to feel less of a woman, because my husband wasn’t going to let that happen,” said the 40-year-old.

Praising his wife for her bravery, Brad added: “This was her charge, no question. It’s a scary decision. There’s many things that can go wrong and go many directions.”

The couple are parents to six children; Maddox, Pax, Shiloh, Zahara, and twins Knox and Vivienne.
