It seems like everyone has gone avacado-crazy over the last 12 months, doesn't it?

Once upon a time an avocado was considered a relatively exotic fruit which may have found its way into our kitchen approximately once a year...and generally by mistake.

But today, you simply can't escape them!

From making your own quacamole to adding them to your morning smoothie, avocados have never been more popular in the eyes of the public, but what is it about them that makes them so great?

Well, let's take a look, shall we?

1. Aids digestion

Fibre is an indigestible plant matter which helps to keep your digestive system running smoothly and can be found in abundance in avocados.

By feeding the good bacteria in the gut, fibre helps to keep your body in tip-top condition.

2, Lowers risk of disease

As a great source of monounsaturated oleic acid, avocados help to decrease our risk of cardiovascular disease.

In addition to this, avocados provide our bodies with certain nutrients, such as vitamin E, folate and potassium - all of which are known to benefit our hearts.

3. Tones complexion

If you're hoping to improve your skin tone, then be sure to add an avocado or two to your next shopping list!

The monounsaturated fats help to moisturise your skin while the omega-9 fats can help to reduce skin redness and irritation.

4. Aids weight loss

Despite being high in fat and calories, avocados are incredibly helpful to anyone attempting to shed some lbs.

The slow burning energy which is released by this luscious green fruit helps you feel fuller for longer meaning you're less likely to snack and pile on weight.

5. Offer versatility

As busy mums, we're often too tired or distracted to create new and exciting recipes, but avocados allow us to spice up our old reliable dishes very easily!

Add one to your standard salad or include it in a savoury dip and marvel at the difference it makes!

So...

Are avocados all they're cracked up to be?! We're going to go with yes on this one!
