People at this side of the Atlantic were left horrified yesterday, when it emerged that a pregnant woman in England had been stabbed multiple times in the street, in broad daylight.

There is some positive news this morning, however, as police have confirmed that the baby was delivered and is now “doing well” in hospital.

Sadly, the 40-year-old mother is said to still be in a critical condition.

The incident occurred yesterday afternoon in the Sutton Coldfield area. Members of the public who witnessed the stabbing and came to the woman’s aid flagged down local police, and the woman was rushed to hospital for treatment shortly after.

A 41-year-old man, believed to be known to the victim, has been arrested. Police have since gone on to describe the incident as “a domestic-related situation”.

“As such, no other members of the public should be alarmed and should be reassured that we have what we believe is the only person involved in this incident,” said a police representative.

In the statement, authorities also heaped praised on the five men who rushed to the woman’s aid after the stabbing, two of whom ended up in hospital themselves with minor injuries.

Our prayers are with this mother and her baby.
