After a lovely summer holiday, it’s perfectly normal if your school child is a little reluctant to go back.

However, if their anxiety seems more extreme or if they are feeling down, there may be something more that is bothering them.

Speak to your child and try and get her to tell you what the problem is. Although they may not even fully know themselves. It could be something simple like worrying who will be in their class or keeping up with homework.
They obviously have to return to school but as a parent you can help them come up with ideas and solutions to make school a more enjoyable experience.
If you suspect that your child may be worried about a more serious issue such as a learning difficulty or bullying, then you will need to take up with the school.

Back to school tips for parents

It’s not at all unusual for parents to suffer from anxiety about sending their children to school, particularly if their child is starting school for the very first time.
It’s important for parents to be comfortable and visiting the school before hand, meeting teachers and other parents are great ways to ease any underlying concerns.

Before you know it, the school year will be in full swing and the next set of holidays will be only weeks away!
