A kind-hearted school principal came up with a clever idea to comfort a little girl who had lost her tooth in the playground.

Avery Patchett's loose tooth popped out while she was at school in Canada.

Her teacher made her a ‘tooth chest necklace’ to keep it safe so she could take it home but during playtime, Avery fell over and the tooth got knocked out of the little box and onto the ground.

The little girl and her two friends searched for the tooth for the rest of their playtime but couldn't find it anywhere, leaving Avery very upset that she wouldn't be able to show it to the tooth fairy.

The little girl’s principal Chris Wejr reassured her that he had a plan - one he had used for another student before.

The principal sent Avery home with a letter with the school's official letterhead on it addressed to the tooth fairy, explaining the situation.

“She is very upset so I told her that I had written a letter to you before and you accepted this in place of the tooth. If you could please accept this letter under her pillow and leave her a gift for her lost tooth, we would really appreciate it,” it read. “Thank you for all your help with this. Happy flying!”

Avery's mother, Debbie Patchett said was deeply touched by the principal's "kind and compassionate gesture.”

She added, "What could have been a sad memory into such a wonderful memory for our little girl."

The tooth fairy left Avery $5.

The tooth fairy letter is being shared on social media, which the principal says is a useful way for the community to see the positive things that teachers do in schools every day.
