New data published by the British Heart Foundation has raised serious concerns over the health of children in the UK.

The report found 80% of children are not eating the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables every day, with many eating crisps, biscuits or sweets at least once a day.

The research also showed that 39% of girls and 43% of boys drink one can of fizzy drink a day, despite one can of cola containing up to nine teaspoonfuls of sugar.

One major concern of the report was in regards to physical activity. Some 85% of girls and 73% of boys say they do not do even an hour's physical activity a day, which is the recommended minimum.

It was also revealed that 47% of boys and over a third of girls aged 13 go without breakfast every day.

The British Heart Foundation is highlighting their concern that the lifestyles of modern children will lead to serious health problems in later life.

What do you think? Is your child leading an active lifestyle? Are treats ok in moderation?
