Due to the difficulties that children will be faced with in the future, UK politicians are recommending that schools offer a course in coping with life.

The certificate would see students learning about self-control and perseverance, while gaining the ability to bounce back when things go wrong.

According to the government-backed report, the development of a child’s character and resilience is crucial and just as important as completing state exams.

The recommendations are in a report by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Social Mobility and the CentreForum think-tank and are supported by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

The report says: “This additional responsibility would either need to be met by a corresponding financial reward/incentive or by schools allowing more time for these activities within the regular school day.”

A course like this could result in school leavers being far more prepared to face life than they currently are. They will also be in a better position to develop employability skills at a quicker pace compared with those who are accustomed to sit-in exams.

This could definitely be a positive move.
