We have heard of a number of incidents in recent times whereby parents have been called out for taking their children out of school without permission, but this latest report has gone viral.

When dad Mike Rossi qualified to run in the Boston Marathon, he told management at his nine-year-old twins’ school that they would not be attending class. This is why he was left stunned when he received a letter from the school’s principal, scolding him for the ‘unexcused absence’ of his kids.

Furious Mike took a screenshot of the letter and posted it to his social media accounts, and it has quickly gone viral around the world.

“An accumulation of unexcused absences can result in a referral to our attendance officer and a subsequent notice of a violation of the compulsory school attendance law,” wrote the principal, Ms Marbury.

Mike also shared a photo of his response to the principal, which has widely garnered applause and praise.

“While I appreciate your concern for our children’s education, I can promise you they learned as much in the five days we were in Boston as they would in an entire year in school. Our children had a once-in-a-lifetime experience, one that can’t be duplicated in a classroom or read in a book,” wrote Mike.

Commenting on the situation to Today.com, Mike said that while he knows the principal is just doing her job, exceptions need to be made in certain situations.

“I always say zero tolerance equals zero common sense, and in this case, they made this blanket rule and say, no exceptions? It’s silly,” he said.

The couple are currently scheduled to meet with the school’s principal later today to the discuss the incident.
