Europe is currently bracing itself for some extreme summer sun this weekend.

A heatwave which is reportedly coming from Africa is set to smash records across the continent.

Portugal is preparing for predicted temperatures of 47 degrees today, according to Sky News.

The publication also reports a possibility of a record topping 48 degrees within Spain and Portugal towards the end of this week.

Sadly, three men have lost their lives due to heatstroke in Spain, according to the Evening Standard.

The warmer weather has been a pleasure for beachgoers but has wrecked havoc for farmers and crops.

Press Association reports that Portuguese farmers have opted to work during the night to avoid the strength of the sun during the day.

Closer to home, the UK is also getting ready for a weekend heatwave.

Kew Gardens experienced top temperatures of 33.2 degrees over the last 24 hours, according to the Met Office.

However, the good weather is expected to break come Wednesday.

Mixed conditions will bring with it the risk of heavy thunderstorms in the eastern areas first thing, but these will quickly clear away, says the Met Office.

Elsewhere, it will be cooler with a mixture of sunshine and showers, they added.

However, don't be so quick to pack away the sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses.

The Met Office has indicated that for the rest of August the weather is to remain dry and sunny:

"It is most likely that the weather will become slightly more settled again. This means that drier and warmer than average conditions are the most probable."

There's another hot day on the cards, ranging from 15 to 29 degrees in places.

UV rays are high today so ensure the entire family is well protected if you plan on being in the sun.

There is good news for hayfever suffers as pollen count is low, according to the weather service.
