According to Andrew Lloyd Webber, Britain doesn’t have a rock culture because schools encourage children to play the violin rather than the guitar.

The composer was hoping to bring his musical School of Rock, which has achieved incredible success in the US, to the West End, but is struggling to get the cast together.

Explaining to the Daily Telegraph about why it is proving a little more difficult in Britain than America, the composer said that it was because schools don’t encourage kids to pick up an electric guitar.

“There are schools in Britain which are 'rock schools' but there aren't as many as there are in America. I kind of have a feeling that rock playing among kids in America is more in the DNA than it is in Britain.”

The musical, which is based on Jack Black’s comedy, has made a record breaking $1.5million in the States, and Lord Llyod Webber wants to open it here in 2016.

However, he has said that the scarcity of rock talent among British children means it may not happen until 2017.

Will you be encouraging your child to pick up a guitar now?
