Hyperopia that remains undiagnosed can cause secondary conditions such as strabismus (crossed eyes) or amblyopia (lazy eye) so it is vital if you think your child may be farsighted that you make an appointment with the optometrist. Amblyopia or strabismus can result in loss of depth perception, difficulty reading, problems concentrating on near vision tasks, and the permanent loss of vision in the affected eye so the early detection of hyperopia is very important.

If you or your partner has an eye condition then it is likely that your child may also develop this, so again regular eye exams are important.
