Lawyer turned stay-at-home mum, Rasha Rushdy, was worried for the impending first day of school.

Her three-year-old daughter 'Tuna' was going to be thrust into an unfamiliar world where she would need to let go of her mummy's hand.

However, Tuna was more than OK with the scenario.

Unlike other stories of tears and fears, this little girl was ready to be unearthed into a classroom where she could begin learning how to carve out her own path in life.

But while Tuna was fearless, there were still tears; tears from Mum.

"She might cry, they said. She might cling to you and not want you to leave the classroom, they said."

"Brace yourself for potentially having to be on standby for months on end, possibly until she's ready for university, okay?" added the mum-of-two.

And while Rasha was ready to comfort her daughter, be there to help her through this new experience, she wasn't needed in the capacity she had been assured she would be required.

Her eldest no longer needed her, telling her mama to 'go now, leave me by myself at school' as she tried to cloud her discomfort in the reception area, listening to the sound of the chairs move about in the classroom down the hall.

Rasha is one proud mum, her daughter bossed her first day of school without a hitch, but she had no idea how much she would truly miss the feeling of her daughter needing her mum.

"The need to be needed - the double-edged sword of motherhood. You go from feeling so *done* with everyone's neediness to missing it in a nanosecond."

Brace yourselves mums - because this is most likely how we're all going to end up feeling in a few weeks.

But they'll be back to us - back to needing our hugs and comfort before you know it.
