If you are concerned that you have a cataract then you should visit your G.P. or ophthalmologist who will be able to carry out a comprehensive examination. This will include:

  • A visual acuity test
  • Dilated eye exam: formulated drops are placed in the pupils which causes the pupils to dilate.  This will allow your G.P. to examine the retina and optic nerve. This will allow the doctor to determine if further tests are necessary.
  • Slit lamp examination: using an ophthalmoscope, a high light beam is used which can detect the presence of cataracts.

If cataracts are diagnosed then your G.P. or ophthalmologist will be able to recommend treatment.
