If you’ve embarked on a new fitness regime then chances are you’ve also given more than a passing thought to your current nutrition plan.

Because these things tend to go hand-in-hand, we often plunge headfirst into a new healthy lifestyle, one which, we’ll be honest, is often hard to maintain.

So, if along with signing up to gym classes, you’ve also decided to detox and kick that pesky caffeine habit, you may want to rethink this approach.

According to recent studies, indulging your caffeine addiction may work wonders if you’re hoping to burn some serious calories during your workout session!

The study, which was published in the Journal of Applied Psychology, showed that participants who consumed two eight ounce cups of coffee 90 minutes before a bike workout found the session significantly easier than the one which saw them consume a placebo liquid.

In addition to this, researchers discovered that consuming caffeine prior to a strenuous workout means an individual is less likely to overindulge throughout the day.

By providing participants with a sandwich buffet in the hours following their exercise session, it was revealed that those who downed a coffee before breaking a sweat consumed 72 calories less than those that didn’t.

Something to think about the next time you’re wondering what to grab before a workout!
