Families in an English housing estate were astounded to be told that their children could no longer play outside as it was “anti-social” behaviour.

Four families living in a cul-de-sac estate in Worcester now fear legal action if they allow their children to play in the paved area outside their homes, which is used mainly for cars to turn around in.

Mum-of-two Emma Turner was one of the parents who received a letter from Nexus Housing regarding her daughters aged six and two. “It’s stupid,” she said to the Daily Mail. “Everyone is really friendly around here and they watch out for the kids. Nexus told me to keep my kids out of the area.”

Carol Stanford, whose granddaughters aged six and three often play outside her house, also received a warning. “I am livid,” she said. “I'm happy for them to play in the area next to my home. There's no room in my garden for them to play skipping games… but I received a letter from Nexus Housing claiming complaints had been made.”

The letter which Ms. Stanford received stated that the cul-de-sac “was private property and not a suitable location for the children to play.”

What do you think – should children be allowed to play outside their homes, even in private residential areas?
