A much-loved actress has been on the receiving end of intense criticism following her appearance on Graham Norton's chatshow this weekend.

Sienna Miller, who shares a three-year-old daughter named Marlowe with actor Tom Sturridge, sparked much online debate after failing to display a poppy on her lapel in honour of war veterans.

Taking to Twitter to voice their disgust at the star's apparent disregard for tradition, one Twitter user wrote: "Why is Sienna Miller not wearing a poppy? Has she refused?"

Continuing with the scathing online message, the Twitter user suggested the star shouldn't have been allowed to appear on the famous red sofa in that case, writing: "If yes, why is she allowed on the show?"

33-year-old Sienna, who appeared alongside Bradley Cooper and Dame Maggie Smith, has been defended in light of the criticism, with a source close to the star explaining the circumstances around the uproar.

Revealing that the Edge of Love star had in fact been sporting the red flower of remembrance prior to going on-set, the insider explained: "She was wearing the poppy pin but it was taken off as she went on air as it was pulling on the clothes."

Commenting on the controversy, the BBC explained that guests are not obliged to wear a poppy and have the right to choose whether they want to or not.
