As parents, we just about got through the Hatchimal crisis of 2016, but there is a new toy in town - so get ready.

This trendy new toy is a tiny little metal gadget that has a spot in the middle, which allows it to be spun between your fingers or on a flat surface at a rapid speed.

These little trinkets are available in a number of different colours, shapes, and sizes, and are the number one trending item on EBay at the moment.

“Their growing popularity is no doubt down to their small size, easily fitting into your pocket and the fact that they cost an average $5.35 on eBay.com.au,” an EBay spokesperson said to Kidspot.

Fidget Spinners can help to disperse excess energy in children (and adults, too) and can promote a sense of calm, while also encouraging greater attention, concentration and active listening.

The spinners have also been used to treat children with additional needs, stimulating the part of the brain that gets bored, which can help little ones with ADD, ADHD and autism.

If you haven't already heard nagging from your kiddos about these little toys, be expecting to hear the classic "mummy, I need it," very, very soon.

Prices for these wonderful fidget spinners start at €16 on the official website (and are significantly cheaper on EBay), and come in all shades of blue, pink, yellow, red and so on.

These pocket-sized play-things are this summer's hottest toy, and we are totally OK with it!
