A mum has deservedly been hailed a hero after she rushed twenty children to safety when the school bus they were on caught fire.

As soon as College Park, Maryland bus driver Reneita Smith noticed the vehicle was on fire, her first thought was for the safety of the twenty children on board. Quickly she unstrapped her seatbelt and got every single child off the bus. And just to make sure no child was left behind, she ran back on and double checked the bus was clear.

College Park council member, Fazlul Kabir posted images of Reneita and the destroyed bus on his Facebook page writing, “A big THANK YOU to our school bus driver Reneita Smith who just saved 20 elementary school kids from a bus fire that completely destroyed the bus.

“Not only Reneita took each one of the 20 kids from the bus one by one, but also went into the empty bus again to check if everyone was out, while it was still burning. ‘I am a mom of two kids; it's my job to save them,’ she told me. Thankfully, all the school kids went home safe.”

However, despite her quick-thinking, selfless bravery, Reneita is modest.

“I opened my door, took off my seat belt, and I got my babies off that bus,” she told NBC. “I have people calling me a hero, and I say that I’m just a mom,” she said.

Well as far as we’re concerned, they’re one and the same.
